How to convert between Fahrenheit, Celsius and Kelvin
To go from Fahrenheit to Celsius, subtract 32 and multiply by 5/9 — so 68 °F becomes 20 °C. Going the other way, multiply by 9/5 and add 32. Kelvin is the scientific scale: a kelvin has exactly the same size as a Celsius degree, so you just add 273.15 to the Celsius value, with no multiplication. 0 K is absolute zero (−459.67 °F, or −273.15 °C), the coldest temperature physically possible: if a conversion lands below it, something is wrong with the input.
When you actually need to convert a temperature
The most common case is following a recipe from abroad: a European oven set to 180 °C is roughly 350 °F, and 220 °C is about 425 °F. It's also useful when reading a Celsius thermometer or a weather forecast while traveling: 38 °C equals 100.4 °F, the threshold commonly considered a fever.
