What is a photo watermark for?
A watermark is a semi-transparent piece of text laid over an image. It lets you sign your photos before publishing them on social media, marketplaces, or a portfolio, making it harder for others to reuse them without credit. Photographers, crafters who sell online, and content creators also use it to stamp their brand name or website address onto every image.
Placement matters: a watermark in a corner is subtle but easy to crop out, while the diagonally tiled version covers the whole photo โ the typical choice for drafts and proofs sent to clients before payment.
Choosing the right opacity and size
For a subtle signature, an opacity between 40% and 60% with a size around 4โ6% of the photo's width works well: it's readable without stealing the show. To really protect an image, raise the opacity and use the diagonal mode. White text is ideal on dark photos; black or gray works on light backgrounds. Try both in the preview โ the download is always at full original resolution.
