How to pick the right name
A trick that works: say the name out loud together with your last name, several times and at normal speed. Watch out for "collisions" (a first name ending with the same syllable your last name starts with), for initials that spell something unfortunate, and for the inevitable nicknames — if "Alexander" is going to become "Alex" anyway, better to know it now.
