Which aspect ratio to choose for social media
Each platform has a preferred format: the 1:1 square is perfect for Instagram posts and profile pictures, 16:9 is the standard for YouTube thumbnails, covers and presentations, vertical 9:16 is what Stories, Reels and TikTok use, while 4:3 remains the classic for camera photos and scanned documents. Cropping doesn't reduce quality
Cropping never recompresses your pixels: the selected area is copied from the original image at full resolution and saved as a lossless PNG.
