Typing speed test
Retype the sentences as fast as you can β you have 60 seconds. At the end you'll see your words per minute (WPM), your accuracy, and your personal best.
What is WPM and what is a good typing speed?
WPM ("words per minute") measures how many words you type in one minute; by convention one word equals 5 characters, so sentences with long or short words produce comparable scores. Hunt-and-peck typists who watch the keyboard usually land between 30 and 40 WPM, an office worker who types daily cruises at 50-60, and a professional typist tops 80. Above 100 WPM with good accuracy you're in rare company. Accuracy matters as much as raw speed, though: 70 WPM with constant backspacing to fix mistakes ends up slower than a clean 55.
How to actually improve your typing
The real leap comes from touch typing with all ten fingers, eyes off the keyboard: each finger owns its columns and your thumbs handle the space bar. Your speed will crater at first, but after a few weeks of daily practice (10-15 minutes is enough) you'll blow past your old limits. The golden rule is accuracy before speed β mistakes cost more time than rushing ever saves. Retake the test over several days: your saved best score tracks your progress.
